What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again.
The Hunger Games trilogy is a young-adult adventure science fiction series written by Suzanne Collins. The trilogy consists of three books, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The first two books were New York Times best sellers. The trilogy takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as "Panem." Panem is divided into a rich and decadent Capitol, located somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, and twelve surrounding, poorer districts which cater to the Capitol's needs. As punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol wherein the thirteenth district was supposedly destroyed, every year one boy and one girl from each of the remaining twelve districts, between the ages of twelve and eighteen, are selected by lottery and forced to participate in the "Hunger Games." The Games are essentially based on the same lines as "Battle Royale"; a televised event where the participants, called "tributes," must fight to the death in a dangerous outdoor arena until only one remains. The winning tribute and his/her corresponding district is then rewarded handsomely. It is required viewing for everyone in the districts.
Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist of the trilogy, a sixteen-year-old girl from District 12 who volunteers for the 74th Hunger Games in place of her younger sister Prim. Katniss somewhat unwittingly manages to kick off a rebellion within the Districts of Panem, and the books follow her adventures. I have an extremely tongue-in-cheek and somewhat whiny in-depth plot summary/Katniss biography available here; suffice it to say that in spite of Katniss' best intentions, everything starts bad and gets progressively worse.
I don't intend to write long commentary in this fst, and I'm hoping that the songs will speak for themselves. Tracks vaguely go in chronological order following the events of the trilogy, but I tend to sacrifice chronological order if I think it makes the mix stronger musically. Technically speaking you could view this fst as third in a series, with

The Hunger Games Trilogy and Katniss Everdeen belong to Suzanne Collins, music belongs to its respective artists. Individual tracks are listed below with relevant lyrics, there is a zip file with high quality cover-art included at the bottom of the post, or you could always opt to skip the bullshit and
A shallow river by the road; soothe the tensions and turn them to skipping stones, and me by the shore. I noticed that day made me older than I was before. You say I'm too sad, well I happen to like it; I happen to like you too. Fire away, I'm still here in phantom wings. Fire away, I still have my better days. Fire away, what more can I do but say fire away, fire away.
You are my center when I spin away, out of control on videotape, on videotape, on videotape, on videotape, on videotape. This is my way of saying goodbye, 'cause I can't do it face to face. I'm talking to you before. No matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid. Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen.
I'm taking it slow, feeding my flame. Shuffling the cards of your game. And just in time, in the right place, suddenly I will play my ace. I won't soothe your pain, I won't ease your strain. You'll be waiting in vain; I got nothing for you to gain. Eyes on fire, your spine is ablaze, felling any foe with my gaze.
Naive little pieces; she thought that they could see her. But soon the Desert Pigs will know: she's holding in an arsenal. She's a time bomb, with her vibe on; she's gonna use it and surprise them. She's a time bomb, with her vibe on; they'll never know where she got her weapon.
I wish I wasn't flesh and blood; I would not be scared of bullets built with me in mind, for then I could be saved. My sweet lord take care of me, for I think I'm done. Kiss my mother on her cheek and lay my burden down. But now that we know for sure they're telling lies when they say no one gets hurt and therefore nobody dies. You know it's hard to believe anything that you hear; They say the world is round, the world is round.
Step one: light me on fire; step two: walk clean away. I won't burn long, and evidence of your done wrong will be gone in seconds I swear.
All along the western front people line up to receive. She got the power in her hand to shock you like you won't believe. Saw her in the amazon with the voltage running through her skin; standing there with nothing on, she gonna teach me how to swim.
I thought you were the sweetest kill; did I even know? And all the time we thought we did, was it just for show? If they try to pull you out would you even go? I thought you were the sweetest kill, did you even know? I held your hand until the light. The scars were on the back. And all the time we were the right; was it just retract? And they can try to put you down, wear you out, get you through the idea of the luck. I thought you were the sweetest kill, did we even know?
In any other world you could tell the difference, and let it all unfurl into broken remnants. Smile like you mean it and let yourself let go. 'Cause it's all in the hands of a bitter, bitter man. Say goodbye to the world you thought you lived in; take a bow, play the part of a lonely, lonely heart. Say goodbye to the world you thought you lived in, to the world you thought you lived in.
So don't turn away now; I am turning in revolution. These are the scars that silence carved on me. This the same place; no, not the same place. This is the same place, love; no, not the same place we've been before. Hey, love, I am a constant satellite
Of your blazing sun. My love, I obey your law of gravity. This is the fate you've carved on me
(instrumental)
I don't wanna be your favorite enemy; not when I can be loving you, alright. why can't it be? No two People feel the same way at the same time. Xavia, who will save us? Your smile's on fire and still my heart won't let you down: the sound. Everyone in this room, they've got troubles too, secret stories and lies that we never knew. You're going away (I don't wanna be), and I'm feeling the same (your favorite enemy) thing day after day (I don't wanna be). I can't let it go (your favorite enemy).
So we speak our peace and wipe our noses; we dig the holes and carve the tombstones, offering comfort in a hand on shoulder. Still no one knows now where he will go. I could be the worm in the apple; I could be the axe that chopped the cherry tree. I could be the glass of water on your bed side table. I could be any person place or thing you make of me. Reincarnation doesn’t seem half bad a plan, a plan. Reincarnation; make me anything you can.
I know, I know, I know, I know; every hour you're awake they'll be upping the price on your head. And now you're in reach, so watch where you sleep. They'll search day and night, can't forget what you do. You'll put up a fight; don't regret how you lived. A means to an end.
