The Tokyo situation was a sort of weird one - the quake itself wasn't that terrible, at least for me, as I was in a relatively new and extremely stable building. It wasn't really until I got home and turned on the TV that I really understood the magnitude (har har) of it all. But I think psychologically it was really weird - the damage was minimal enough that after the first couple of days people tried to return to "normal", which no one was sure how to do really - so it was just this huge city of terrified people going through the motions of living.
I can't watch earthquake footage, I inevitably scare myself silly. Can't even talk about earthquakes to be honest. I've gotten a lot better during my twoish years in therapy, but it's still hard.

Hope you are doing well.
